We have GSD (German Shepard Dog). It's the first one I have ever had, but my wife had one before we were married. These dogs are walking breathing analytical machines.
They lay around a lot, seeming to be totally at rest. But within 300 milliseconds of some new thing not inside the normal pattern she will pop-up barking and trying to engage us with this new strange thing she is locked on to. And she will not let go of it until she sees that we see it and are at peace with whatever it is.
That is how we should be looking for problems in manufacturing systems. We should know what is happening around us, and with great and sustained intensity, stay on a problem until it is properly fixed. Months and years of that and you will have systems to be proud of.
