Today communication happens all over the place. The worst of which is text (SMS). It is terrible for groups, the CCP is in it, and the entire environment travels with the phone itself (in most cases).
How to do it better (at least in organizational environments)....
- Pick the information management environment all the people are in
- If there isn't one, setup a system that has a communications sub-system built in (Odoo, ERPNext, Nextcloud, even Microsoft 365 if you must)
- Only use it, not the old one. Don't tolerate going backwards!
It can be difficult, very difficult to get people to change behavior. To me, it seems harder than it ever has than in the past.
But it really isn't rocket science:
- Highlight the benefits
- Highlight the downsides
- The leader must be unequivocal about using the new system
Since we use Odoo, that is the environment I prefer. Others are Slack, Microsoft Teams and a variety of others.
Stand alone, and open source, options include:
- XMPP
- Zulip
- Rocket Chat
It is much better to have control over how the system works, who can use it and have the ability to back it up.
