Getting organized is an extremely difficult thing to do. And here is why....

1. It requires decisions, and usually a string of them, each with a risk profile.

2. Basically, good decisions hurt. They can actually hurt in your chest.

3. We have a finite amount of energy each day that seems to be mostly supported by sleep. Each decision burns this off.

But there is another factor.......What do I have to give up (I don't want to give anything up)?

Good decisions require you to give up something and keep something. You get to celebrate what you will gain, and you have to grieve what you will lose.

This may seem a bit overdone for everyday kinds of decisions, but I don't think it is. Physical and digital environments can get very messy. I see it almost everywhere I go, and I believe this is why.

What is the answer? It is to be realistic about how much you want to give up, how much energy you have, how much you want to hurt, and how bad you want what is on the other side of all these reasons to avoid making a choice.

Grown, mature and responsible adults are good at building layer by layer with good, strong choices and they produce beneficial things in the areas they work in. And they have a secret weapon.....the word "no".
